[Video] US-Europe comparison: factors affecting the advancement of women in STEM – Prof. Janet Hering

🗣 Prof. Janet Hering holds a professorial position in Environmental Biogeochemistry at both ETH Zurich and EPFL. She is also currently director of Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology.

🔊 Abstract: The speaker has a career in both the US and Switzerland, and she experienced numerous leadership position in large international committees. As such, she gathered a broad view of the factors that affect the advancement of female scientists in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects. She highlights the differences between the US and Europe, demonstrating where the barriers really are.

It addressed the challenges and opportunities for the retention of women in science and academia.
